Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Wool cap (1940)
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a voluntary government work relief program that ran from 1933 to 1942 in the United States for unemployed, unmarried men. This program was designed to supply jobs for young men and to relieve families who had difficulty finding jobs during the Great Depression in the United States.
This particular hat was part of the uniform that some of the CCC workers received. However, due to outbreak of the second world war, many of these hats were given to soldiers who needed them.
The main feature of this hat is the neck cover. This cover extends to the chin, granting some ear and facial protection from the elements. It could be done up (see pictures) and the hat could be worn as a simple cap.
Size: 7 & 1/8 (56 – 57 cm circumference)
Condition: some wear but amazing for age
Colour: dark green
