Comme des Garçons "Karakul" Hat (FW90)

US$200.00
Sold

This wool hat references two interesting headwear pieces, the “Karakul” hat and WW2 cold weather headwear.

The “Karakul” hat is a traditional hat for many people in Central and South Asia. It gets its name from the Karakul sheep, whose fur is traditionally used to make this hat.

The general shape of the Karakul hat is combined with the ear protection of Military cold wear headgear, which has been used extensively since before WW2. Here are two examples from the US Army and the Swiss Army.

This hat seems to exist somewhere in the middle of these two worlds. It is reversible, and each side has a different silhouette (conical or cylindrical). Featuring a wool similar to the US Army hat, a cover for the ears, and a quilted construction.

I believe that this is from FW90 “Mother Georgia” collection, as this hat is typical of the Caucasus, but I stand to be corrected.
