Lad Musician Mirrored "La Morphiniste" T-Shirt (1990s)

US$115.00

This Lad Musician t-shirt references a lithograph by the Swiss "Belle Epoque" artist Eugène Grasset. This lithograph, titled "La Morphiniste," was produced in 1897 and features a woman injecting morphine into her thigh. This image is depicted twice on the shirt, once in the original format and once mirrored and inverted. Apart from this unique print the t-shirt features a very thick and soft material and a Lad Musician seam tag.

The intention behind the brand was likely to peek behind the velvet curtain of Rock music (a genre which was a focal point of the brand) and to portray the reality of drug use and the duality of the "rockstar lifestyle."

The original lithograph artist (Eugène Grasset, 1845) was a pioneer of Art Noveau, with the majority of his repertoire focusing on decorative art. Despite this decorative dedication Grasset also produced gritty works like this, which stands out as a stark contrast to the rest of his work and portrays the "crude reality" behind the veils of a supposedly respectable society.

Size: XS-S

Condition: 8/10 slight signs of wear

Colour: Yellow
