Maison Martin Margiela Line 6 "Reference Line" Overshirt (SS03)
This interesting jacket makes two interesting references; the classic white lab coat of the margiela house, and reference lines on a mannequin. The first reference is a garment that is almost synonimous with the label, the white lab coat. Since the creation of the line, Margiela has been dressing himself and his employees in white lab coats, not only in runway shows and events, but also during work hours at the house. The second reference is the reference lines on a mannequinn. These lines are used by pattern makers to create patterns with specific measurements. This reference is also reminiscent of his SS97 collection, when Margiela showed his study of a Haute Couture fashion show as a collection, with mannequin dresses, aprons and shirts.
