Maison Martin Margiela Asymmetric Long Liner Skirt (SS95)
This skirt may appear simple at first glance, but upon closer examination one can notice the very peculiar construction of this garment. Featuring two irregular darts in front and back, a twisted back tag, and a “side” opening, the supposed orientation of the skirt is not immediately apparent.
However, it all makes sense once the skirt is slightly turned. The two larger darts are intended to be placed at the sides of the waist, with the front and back having a small dart and a princess seam each.
This asymmetrical design highlights the construction of the garment, with the “fake side seams” being at the front and back and the opening zipper being at the front.
As a result of its construction, this skirt can be worn with the seams at the sides, with asymmetric darts (and draping) in the front and back (as seen in these pictures) or with the long darts at the sides, with asymmetric seams in the front and back.
Also featuring a very simple “tailored trouser” waist as well as raw hems.
This skirt likely comes from SS95, as there is a similar skirt featured in the runway pictures (albeit in a different material). Although I can’t say this with 100% certainty, it is evident that this skirt was produced between SS94 and SS98. And if it is not from SS95, it is likely from SS96.
Size 44: about 38 cm waist and very long
Condition: 9/10 very small signs of wear. Missing a single hanging string.
Material: thick lining material (73% acetate 27% viscose)
Colour: black
