WW2 French Ice Nail Boots (30s-40s)

US$150.00

Very interesting pair of canvas boots. Meant to be worn over boots in icy conditions, they feature a leather sole with metal nails, and a canvas upper.

Interestingly, they are very similar to canvas jungle boots (see last picture), albeit with a completely different purpose in mind. These were likely meant to be breathable for two reasons; to combat trench foot (they were likely developed around ww1), and because they were meant to go over boots that already provide you with insulation. On the other hand, jungle boots were developed for their breathability in very warm climates, specifically during the war in Indochina.

Very cool historical object nonetheless.

Size 2, but fit a number of sizes because they are meant to go over shoes.

Condition: worn but great
