This very unusual mask comes from the Soviet Navy. These masks were likely issued to soldiers who had to work under harsh conditions in submarines or warships. It allows the wearer to adjust face cover up or down, depending on the weather conditions. Similar masks were worn by Red Army pilots (see last image), and motorcycle riders.
